Customer Advisory: ILA Contract Negotiations – Possible Strike
August 7, 2024
The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) is seeking a wage increase from maritime employers on the U.S. East and Gulf coasts. They are proposing an 80% rise over six years, amounting to a $5-per-hour rise annually. The ILA has issued a 60-day strike notice (starting on October 1st) if a new contract is not reached by September 30, 2024.
Potential Impact:
- Operational Disruptions: The ILA’s strike could lead to considerable disruptions in maritime operations, affecting cargo handling and transportation on the East and Gulf coasts.
- Supply Chain Delays: Delays in cargo movement could result in extended delivery times and increased costs for businesses relying on the East and Gulf Coast ports.
APL Logistics is actively monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates as needed. If you have any questions, please contact your APL Logistics representative.
